Our All-Natural Ingredients

This is where we geek out.

At Urban Gardener, we only use all-natural, plant-based, vegan, cruelty-free ingredients. After lots of research on what high-yield organic farmers were using in many parts of the world, we narrowed down the most effective, safe options and combined them into foliar sprays. Here is a quick explanation on why foliar distribution (spraying directly onto leaves) is the best method for plants to receive the below ingredients:

Foliar application is a method of distributing nutrients to plants by applying the them directly to the leaves of the plant. The leaf surface is an efficient way for plants to absorb nutrients because it contains structures called stomata, which are tiny openings that allow the plant to take in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and release oxygen and water vapor. These stomata are also able to absorb liquid compounds such as those in foliar sprays, which makes it an efficient way for plants to absorb nutrients and also beneficial for certain minerals or micro-nutrients that are not easily absorbed through soil. This process allows for quick uptake of nutrients, especially during critical growth stages or stress.

Organic Liquid Kelp

Kelp is a type of seaweed that grows in cold coastal waters. It is a natural source of many essential minerals, such as iodine, potassium, and magnesium, as well as a rich source of micro-nutrients and antioxidants.

Kelp can be used to keep plants healthy by providing them with a wide range of essential nutrients. When used as a foliar spray, the nutrients in kelp can be quickly absorbed by the plant, which can lead to an increase in growth and overall health. Kelp can also be used as a soil amendment, helping to increase the availability of certain minerals in the soil that plants need for growth. Additionally, the amino acids in kelp can help to stimulate root growth and improve the ability of plants to absorb water and nutrients from the soil.

Yucca Extract

Yucca extract is derived from the yucca plant, which is native to the deserts of North and South America. Yucca extract is often used as a natural wetting agent and surfactant in gardening and agriculture. Wetting agents are substances that reduce the surface tension of liquids, making it easier for the liquid to penetrate into dry or compacted soil. This can be especially helpful for promoting better absorption of water and nutrients by the roots of plants.

Yucca extract also contains saponins, which are compounds that can act as natural fungicides and insecticides. Saponins can inhibit the growth of certain types of fungi and other microorganisms, which can help to keep plants healthy. They also may act as repellents for certain insects, helping protect the plants.

Bamboo Extract

Bamboo extract is derived from the bamboo plant, which is a type of grass that is native to many regions of the world, including Asia, Africa, and South America. Bamboo extract is often used as a natural growth stimulant and plant conditioner for gardening and agriculture. It is particularly rich in silica, a mineral that is important for plant growth and development. Silica helps to strengthen plant cell walls, which can make them more resistant to disease and pests. It also can improve the ability of plants to absorb water and nutrients, promoting overall health and vitality.

Bamboo extract also contains other compounds that may benefit plants, such as phytohormones and antioxidants. Phytohormones are compounds that can regulate plant growth and development, helping to promote healthy growth and development. Antioxidants help to protect plants against damage caused by environmental stressors such as ultraviolet radiation, excessive heat, and drought.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a type of vegetable oil that is derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis), which is native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Jojoba oil is a clear, golden-colored liquid that is high in beneficial compounds such as fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Jojoba oil can be used to help keep plants healthy in a number of ways. One common use is as a natural fungicide, as it contains compounds that can inhibit the growth of certain types of fungi and other microorganisms that can cause plant diseases. Jojoba oil can also be used as a natural insecticide, repelling certain types of insects that can damage plants.

Jojoba oil can also be used as a natural plant conditioner, helping to improve the overall health and appearance of plants. When applied to the leaves of a plant, jojoba oil can form a protective barrier that helps to retain moisture, reducing water loss and helping the plants to stay hydrated. Jojoba oil can also be used as a natural pesticide as its fatty acids can be toxic to some insects.

Fungal Chitosan

Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide derived from chitin, a component of the exoskeleton of crustaceans like shrimp, crab, and lobsters. We at Urban Gardener wanted the anti-fungal benefits that this compound produced, but from a plant-based source. So we researched some more and found a version of chitosan that is derived solely from fungi.

Fungal chitosan has been observed to enhance the root growth, increase the chlorophyll content, and improve the overall plant performance by promoting cell division and increasing the total biomass production.

Fungal chitosan also has antimicrobial properties and can be used to control certain types of fungal and bacterial infections in plants, that can lead to the reduction of diseases and pests, which can affect the plant growth.

Fungal chitosan can also be used to help plants tolerate environmental stressors such as extreme temperatures, drought, and salinity. It can help to protect the plants by forming a protective barrier on the plant surface, which can prevent the loss of water and other essential nutrients.

Fungal chitosan can be used to help keep plants healthy by controlling fungal infections and diseases. It works by disrupting the cell walls of fungal pathogens, which can inhibit their growth and reproduction. It also has been observed that it can boost the defense response and overall plant growth. Fungal chitosan can be used as a preventative measure against fungal infections, but it can also be used to treat plants that are already infected.

Green Tea Extract

Used in our formulas in small concentrations. Green tea extract is a concentrated form of the active compounds found in green tea leaves. Green tea extract is used to keep plants healthy by providing a number of beneficial compounds such as polyphenols, catechins, and antioxidants. These compounds can help to protect plants against environmental stressors such as ultraviolet radiation, excessive heat, and drought, as well as some fungal infections. The antioxidant properties of polyphenols and catechins can also help to scavenge harmful free radicals, reducing damage to plant cells and promoting overall plant health.

Green tea extract can also be used as a natural growth stimulant, as it contains compounds such as caffeine and theanine that can help to promote healthy growth and development of plants.
